Brown Bark Scorpion
Centruroides gracilis
The brown bark scorpion is a climbing species native to Mexico and Central America and introduced in places including Florida. Adults vary from dark brown or black to reddish, sometimes with red pincers or pale legs. It shelters beneath bark and in crevices. Specialist keepers use a tightly closed enclosure with upright bark refuges, suitable substrate, water and ventilation. Sting severity varies geographically, with medically significant cases documented; never handle it. Females give birth to live young.
