Smoky-Brown Cockroach
Validiblatta fuliginosa
The smoky-brown cockroach is a warm-climate species maintained in research and specialist colonies and established around buildings in many introduced regions. Adults are uniformly dark reddish-brown, unlike the pale-rimmed head shield of American cockroaches or yellow wing streaks of Australian cockroaches. Captive cultures need secure, ventilated shelters, moist retreats and varied food. Females lay egg cases. Older sources call it Periplaneta fuliginosa.
