Smooth Cockroach
Symploce pallens
The smooth cockroach is a small species sometimes found in greenhouses and maintained in feeder or specialist colonies. Adult males have full wings, while females have shorter wings and a broader outline. Captive colonies are easy to propagate when provided with moist substrate, sheltered retreats, ventilation and varied food, but they tolerate drying poorly. Females lay egg cases. All stages climb and males can fly, so a secure enclosure is needed.
