Smooth-Sided Toad
Rhaebo guttatus
This large Amazonian toad is kept and bred by specialist amphibian hobbyists. Adults have a brown back, dark reddish side bands and a smoother appearance than many familiar toads. They need roomy, ventilated ground-level enclosures with moist substrate, hides, a soaking dish and varied invertebrate prey. Breeding takes place in water during wet conditions, and females lay large egg clutches. Juveniles have different markings, so an adult's side stripe is not a reliable guide to a young toad.
