South African Fat Tail Scorpion

The South African fat tail scorpion is a large, dark species of southern African bushveld and semi-arid country. It has narrow pincers and a thick ridged tail, and retreats beneath rocks, logs or into burrows. It is a specialist display animal requiring an escape-proof enclosure with deep diggable substrate, a stable shelter and water. Its venom can cause serious illness; it can also spray venom, posing an eye hazard. Never handle it or bring your face near it. Females give birth to live young.
