Southern Brown Brocket
Subulo gouazoubira
The southern brown brocket is a small South American deer with a plain gray-brown coat and simple spike antlers in males. It uses woodland, scrub and forest edges, eating leaves, fruit and other vegetation. Zoos keep it with cover, quiet retreats and careful management of territorial adults. Females bear live calves. The current Mammal Diversity Database uses Subulo gouazoubira; older records use Mazama gouazoubira. It is separate from the Amazonian brown brocket.
