Southern House Spider
Kukulcania hibernalis
The southern house spider is a crevice weaver native to the Americas and introduced elsewhere. Females are velvety dark brown with robust bodies; males are pale brown and lanky, with unusually long mouth palps that can lead to confusion with recluses. It builds woolly silk around a sheltered crack rather than an orb web. Hobby keepers provide secure, ventilated housing with narrow retreats, web anchors, moisture and suitable insects. Females lay silk egg sacs and remain with them in the retreat.
