Southern Pig-Tailed Macaque
Macaca nemestrina
This Southeast Asian macaque has a brown coat, dark crown cap and short pig-like tail. It forages on the ground for fruit and other foods but also climbs and sleeps in trees. Zoos manage social groups with climbing routes, ground foraging and separation areas. Females bear live infants. Macaca nemestrina is distinct from the northern pig-tailed macaque, Macaca leonina, whose adult males have a longer pale cheek ruff. US primate-import restrictions apply.
