Spiropoeus fischeri
Spiropoeus fischeri
Spiropoeus fischeri is a stout, dark millipede from tropical West Africa. Its glossy brown-black rings and short brown legs can resemble those of other giant African millipedes. A 2026 study confirmed captive-bred zoo specimens using detailed anatomical characters, rather than color alone.
It is an egg-laying species kept in specialist collections. As with other large tropical millipedes, housing centers on deep, moist, ventilated organic substrate with decayed leaves and wood. The shared name giant African millipede does not establish its identity.
