Spotted Belly Poison Frog
Ranitomeya ventrimaculata
This thumbnail poison frog lives in the western Amazon and is bred by dart-frog specialists. The Yasuni form shown has thin pink back and lip stripes over black, with blue-gray netting on its flanks and limbs. Keepers provide humid planted terrariums, tiny insects and clean water reservoirs. Females lay eggs near water, and males transport tadpoles. Older hobby uses of ventrimaculata included other species; this frog is the species formerly called Ranitomeya duellmani.
