Steller Sea Lion
Eumetopias jubatus
The Steller sea lion is a large North Pacific pinniped. Mature males develop a heavy neck and mane, while females are smaller and lighter. It eats fish and other marine prey. Specialist zoos and aquariums provide treated pools, dry haul-outs and facilities to separate breeding animals; females bear live pups. The Marine Mammal Protection Act regulates US take and import. ESA endangered status applies to the western population segment, not the entire species.
