Surinam Horned Frog
Ceratophrys cornuta
This horned frog lives in Amazonian forests and is kept by experienced amphibian hobbyists. Adults may be brown or green, with pointed projections above the eyes and a very broad mouth. Keepers provide moist, well-drained substrate, cover, shallow clean water and suitable prey, housing adults separately because they can eat other frogs. It lays eggs that develop into aquatic tadpoles. Its tall eye projections distinguish it from many common captive Pacman frogs; it is not an albino or domestic color strain.
