Taiwanese Assassin Mimic
Paranauphoeta formosana
The Taiwanese assassin mimic is a bark-sheltering Paranauphoeta maintained in specialist colonies. Its paired adult wing markings resemble the warning patterns of some assassin bugs, though it is a cockroach. Young roaches have a conspicuous orange abdominal patch instead of the adult pattern. Captive colonies use sheltered bark, moist substrate, ventilation and varied food. Females retain their egg cases and release live young. Secure housing is needed because all stages climb.
