Caribbean Diamond Tarantula
Tapinauchenius rasti
The Caribbean diamond tarantula is a tree-dwelling species from Union Island in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Adult females have a green carapace, blue-violet legs and abdomen, and longer reddish hairs on the rear legs. It shelters in tree cavities and bark retreats. Experienced hobbyists provide a secure, ventilated vertical enclosure with a sheltered bark tube, substrate and water. This very quick spider is best observed without handling. Females produce silk egg sacs.
