Texas Alligator Lizard
Gerrhonotus infernalis
This large alligator lizard inhabits oak woodland and rocky canyons in south-central Texas and Mexico. Adults have a broad head, brown crossbarred body and a long tail used while climbing. Specialist keepers provide spacious enclosures with branches, hides, leaf litter, a heat and UV gradient, moist retreats and varied supplemented insects.
Females lay eggs and can guard the clutch. Texas regulates native nongame collection, possession and sale; road-shoulder collection has additional endorsement and visibility requirements.
