Texas Tan Tarantula
Aphonopelma anax
The Texas tan tarantula is a burrowing spider of southern Texas and northeastern Mexico. Adult females have a light tan-brown carapace, dark hairy legs and a dark abdomen with longer reddish hairs. Its color overlaps with the Texas brown tarantula, so origin and specialist identification matter. Tarantula hobbyists keep it singly in a low, secure enclosure with a hide, diggable substrate and a water dish. Avoid handling, damaging falls and contact with irritating defensive hairs. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
