Peruvian Flame Rump Tarantula
Thrixopelma ockerti
The Peruvian flame rump tarantula is traded as Thrixopelma ockerti. A live female in the 2021 revision had a greenish-brown head and legs and long rose-red abdominal hairs, with a darker front quarter. Color alone cannot identify related tarantulas; retain breeder records. Keepers provide secure, ventilated ground-level housing with substrate, a retreat and drinking water. Feed appropriately sized insects and avoid handling or disturbing a molting spider. Females lay eggs in silk sacs.
