Tomato Frog
Dyscophus antongilii
The tomato frog comes from northeastern Madagascar and is bred by amphibian hobbyists. Adult females are larger and vivid orange-red, while males tend to be browner; a dark side stripe and pale underside complete the pattern. Keepers provide a humid ground enclosure with soft digging substrate, shelters, shallow clean water and insect prey. It lays eggs in water, where tadpoles develop. Its defensive sticky secretion can irritate, so handling is kept to necessary care.
