Tonkawa Sand Cockroach
Arenivaga tonkawa
The Tonkawa sand cockroach is a small burrowing Arenivaga from the southwestern and central United States and northwestern Mexico. Adult males are winged, while females are broad and wingless; pale, translucent young remain hidden in the substrate. Specialist colonies use loose, relatively dry substrate, cover and carefully managed moisture. Females lay egg cases. External appearance overlaps other sand roaches, so locality and the fine characters used in taxonomic keys are more reliable than color alone.
