Tungara Frog
Engystomops pustulosus
The tungara frog occurs from Mexico through Central America into northern South America and is maintained in research and specialist amphibian collections. This small brown frog is famous for its complex calls, though it is visually inconspicuous. Enclosures need moist ground cover, clean shallow water and small invertebrate prey. Females lay eggs in floating foam nests, and the tadpoles develop in water. Its dark facial markings and low, rounded body distinguish it from the more slender Trinidad poison frog.
