Bronce

Bronce

Bronce is the Spanish word for bronze and, in turkey listings, usually points to a bronze-colored domestic turkey rather than a distinct breed recognized everywhere under that name. Birds described as bronce typically show dark brown to black plumage with copper, green, and bronze iridescence, plus barred wings and a pale-edged tail similar to Bronze turkeys. In some regions the term may be used broadly for local bronze farm turkeys, standard Bronze stock, or broad-breasted bronze meat birds.

Because the label can be descriptive, buyers need to ask about the strain behind it. A heritage-type bronce turkey may breed naturally and fit a small farm flock, while a broad-breasted bronce bird is usually managed for meat on a fixed schedule. Poults need warm brooding and high-protein feed; adults need dry night housing, exercise space when available, and strong predator control.
