Narragansett Coloured
Narragansett coloured describes a domestic turkey with the Narragansett plumage pattern, especially in British or European-style wording where colour terms may be listed separately from breed names. The pattern is gray, black, tan, and white, with the bronze or copper sheen of a Bronze turkey largely replaced by slate-gray tones. In some settings the phrase refers to a color variety rather than to a documented Narragansett breed line, so it can appear in exhibition, hobby, or mixed-flock descriptions.
For breeders, the main task is keeping the color clean while maintaining ordinary turkey vigor. Birds with bronze leakage, weak barring, poor fertility, or narrow bodies may not suit a serious breeding pen even if they look attractive. Care is the same as for other domestic turkeys: warm brooding, dry bedding, secure roosting, and protection from predators. Buyers should ask whether the seller means a recognized Narragansett turkey or simply a turkey colored in the Narragansett pattern.
