Wingless Female Roach
Pycnoscelus femapterus
The wingless female roach is a small Pycnoscelus maintained in specialist and feeder colonies. Adult females are shiny purple-black and lack wings, while males are winged and can climb and flutter. Pale young darken as they grow. Captive colonies need organic substrate for shelter, access to moisture, ventilation and varied food. Females retain their egg cases and release live young. Unlike the all-female shadow roach cultures, colonies contain both sexes.
