Wood Frog
Lithobates sylvaticus
The wood frog ranges across northern North America and is maintained in research and specialist amphibian collections. Adults are usually brown with a dark eye mask and raised folds along the back. Enclosures need sheltered moist land, leaf litter, clean water and suitable invertebrate prey, with seasonal conditions suited to their origin. Females lay egg masses in water in spring, and tadpoles develop in pools. Its ability to survive partial freezing in the wild is not a reason to freeze a captive frog.
