Tianzhu White
The Tianzhu White is a Chinese domestic yak breed from Tianzhu Tibetan Autonomous County in Gansu, on the northeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Its white coat is unusual enough in yaks that the animals have been selected as a local genetic resource rather than treated simply as a color variant. Like other yaks, it is a compact, long-haired bovine adapted to cold, thin air, seasonal forage, and mountain pastures; herds may still include horned animals and some variation in markings.
People keep Tianzhu White yaks for fiber, hides, meat, milk, packing, and cultural uses, with white hair valued because it can be spun or dyed more easily than dark yak fiber. Management usually follows high-altitude grazing systems with winter fodder support and attention to mineral intake, parasites, calving weather, and predator pressure. Breeding programs benefit from recording parentage and avoiding casual crossing if the goal is to maintain the white line, since the population is relatively localized and easily diluted.
