Yucatán Casque-Headed Treefrog
Triprion petasatus
This treefrog inhabits the Yucatan Peninsula and nearby Central America. Specialist amphibian keepers breed it in tall enclosures with plants, branches and humid retreats. Adults have a broad, flattened, duckbill-like snout and variable brown, gray or green coloring. They eat insects and lay eggs in water after seasonal rains. Breeding and juvenile care require different moisture conditions from the adults' drier resting periods. Its flattened head differs from the spiked crown of the spiny-headed treefrog.
