Zetland
Equus caballus x Equus quagga
Zetland is an uncommon horse-zebra hybrid label rather than a widely recognized equine breed or species. In practical use, it appears to describe a zebra-cross animal related to the broader zorse or zebroid category. The exact appearance can vary with the domestic horse or pony parent, but striping from the zebra side may show on the legs, neck, head, or over parts of the body.
Because the label is informal, management should focus on the actual animal in front of the handler: size, temperament, parentage, health history, and training level. A Zetland-type hybrid needs secure fencing, experienced equine care, careful hoof and dental maintenance, and patient handling that accounts for zebra ancestry. Clear records are especially useful when transferring ownership, arranging veterinary care, or explaining the animal to visitors.
