Het Albino
A het albino ball python is heterozygous for the recessive albino trait, meaning it carries one copy of albino but is not a visual albino. Most het albino animals look like normal ball pythons or like whatever other visible morphs they carry. The label is genetic rather than visual, so it depends on parentage, breeding proof, or a trustworthy record from the breeder.
For pet care, het albino status changes nothing about housing, feeding, shedding, or handling. For breeding, it matters a great deal. Pairing a het albino to a visual albino or another het albino can produce visual albino offspring, while pairing to an unrelated non-carrier will not. Buyers should distinguish proven het, possible het, and claimed het, and should keep documentation with the animal if future breeding or resale is planned.
