Piebald
Piebald ball pythons, often shortened to pieds, are recessive Python regius morphs that produce crisp white areas mixed with normally pigmented pattern. The amount of white can range from small bands to a mostly white body with only a few colored saddles, while the head often keeps a more typical ball python look. Piebald is not the same as albino or leucistic; the white patches lack visible pattern, but the eyes and colored sections retain normal pigment unless other morphs are involved.
Piebalds do not need different temperatures, foods, or handling just because of their white scales. They are bred through recessive genetics, so a visual pied has two copies of the gene and a nonvisual het pied carries one. Markers sometimes discussed by keepers, such as belly tracks or small ringers, are not proof on their own. When choosing a piebald, look beyond high-white appeal and check feeding history, shed quality, body shape, and the breeder's explanation of the pairing.
