Yellow Belly
Yellow belly is a subtle incomplete dominant ball python morph named for the yellow wash that can show along the belly and lower sides. Single-gene animals may have brighter side flames, a busy or checkered belly, cleaner blushing, and slight changes in the alien-head pattern, but expression ranges from obvious to nearly normal. It is important in breeding because two copies can produce the ivory form, a mostly pale cream to white snake, and related yellow belly complex genes can interact in similar ways.
Because the single-gene look is variable, identification should be supported by parentage or breeding results when the snake is intended for a project. Yellow belly is widely used to brighten combinations with pastel, fire, banana, clown, pied, and other morphs, but the gene itself does not require special husbandry. Keepers provide standard ball python conditions: a secure enclosure, warm and cool areas, hides, suitable humidity, and a calm feeding routine. Buyers should be cautious with vague labels on very subtle animals.
