Beijing White
Beijing white refers to white-feathered chicken stock associated with Chinese breeding programs in and around Beijing, most commonly a light laying type rather than an old village landrace. The name may appear in breed lists, research papers, or hatchery material, but exact ancestry can vary; many such lines have White Leghorn or other commercial layer influence. Birds are generally clean-legged, white plumaged, early maturing, and selected for efficient white-shelled egg production with relatively small body size.
Management is closer to that of productive layer strains than to heavy dual-purpose chickens. A balanced layer ration with reliable calcium is important, and housing should emphasize ventilation without crowding. For farms and researchers, the important buyer question is not color alone but whether the stock is a stable line, a commercial hybrid, or a locally maintained population. Performance records, disease status, and source history matter more than exhibition points, because the label is used less consistently than standardized heritage breed names.
