Bian – Nei-Mong
Bian-Nei Mong refers to a regional population of the Bian chicken associated with Nei Mongol, or Inner Mongolia, in Chinese poultry resource listings. It should be read as a locality or strain label, not necessarily a separate show breed with a universally fixed standard. Birds from this background are part of the broader tradition of northern Chinese village chickens selected under dry, cold-season conditions for practical eggs, meat, and survival in small farm systems.
Management should reflect that landrace background. Wind protection, dry litter, unfrozen water, and adequate winter feed are more important than forcing birds toward commercial production levels. Breeding projects should document where the stock came from and keep the Nei Mongol line separate if conservation is the purpose. Because names can be translated several ways, prospective keepers should ask suppliers whether the birds are direct descendants of Inner Mongolian Bian stock or simply similar-looking farm chickens.
