Boffen
Boffen is a poorly documented chicken label found in some breed indexes, but it is not widely described in mainstream poultry standards or hatchery literature. The safest way to treat it is as a domestic chicken line or regional name whose exact origin, color requirements, and production traits may vary with the source. Birds sold under obscure labels like this should be evaluated as individual chickens first: body condition, sound legs, normal comb and feathering, fertility, and useful laying ability matter more than the name alone.
For keepers, care is ordinary chicken care until a verified standard or conservation program says otherwise. A clean coop, predator-proof night housing, balanced feed, and weather protection are more important than assuming special requirements from a rare name. Breeders or researchers trying to preserve Boffen stock should document where the birds came from, keep them separate from look-alike chickens, and record hatch results and adult traits. Buyers should ask for photos of the parent flock and any history behind the line.
