Brockbar
The Brockbar is a rare British autosexing chicken developed from Plymouth Rock ancestry, commonly described as involving Buff Rock and barred lines. Like other autosexing breeds, it was bred so male and female chicks show different down markings at hatch, saving time for farms that wanted early sorting without vent sexing. Adult birds carry barred plumage over a warm buff or gold base, with males generally lighter and females darker. It is a medium to large utility chicken rather than a modern production hybrid.
Brockbars appeal to breeders who enjoy conservation poultry and practical genetics. They need the same housing as other active heavy breeds: secure roosting space, dry litter, and enough range or yard room to keep them fit. Because the breed is uncommon, sourcing unrelated stock can be harder than raising the birds themselves. Hatch color, barring clarity, body size, and laying ability are all worth tracking so the autosexing trait is not preserved at the expense of vigor.
