Cari Gold
CARI Gold is an Indian improved chicken strain, with CARI referring to the Central Avian Research Institute at Izatnagar. It is usually discussed as a production variety rather than an old landrace or exhibition breed, developed for practical egg output in Indian farm conditions. Birds are typically colored rather than white commercial-layer type, with golden or brownish plumage in many lines, and are intended to be more suitable for smallholder and semi-intensive systems than highly specialized imported layers.
Small farms use CARI Gold where a hardy layer is wanted for household eggs and local sale. The strain still depends on normal poultry management: clean night housing, vaccination programs appropriate to the area, balanced feed, and shade during hot weather. Because improved strains may not breed true in the same way as a closed heritage breed, replacement chicks are best obtained from reliable hatcheries or extension sources that maintain the parent stock. Buyers should ask about the specific line, age, and expected laying performance under local feeding conditions.
