Faverolle Bantam
The Faverolle bantam is the small version of the Faverolles chicken, carrying the breed's soft outline, beard, muffs, feathered legs, and five-toed feet in a compact body. Bantams are kept mainly for exhibition, small-flock enjoyment, and breeding projects rather than large eggs or table size. Salmon is the best-known color in standard Faverolles, though bantam varieties may differ by country and poultry club. A good Faverolle bantam should still look like a Faverolles, not merely like a small bearded chicken.
Owners appreciate Faverolle bantams for their gentle appearance and manageable size, but their feathered legs need clean, reasonably dry ground. They fit well in protected backyard pens, youth exhibition flocks, and breeding pens where temperament and type can be observed closely. Because of the beard and muff feathering, keepers should watch that birds can see, eat, and drink comfortably, especially in wet weather or crowded pens. Breeders select for correct toes, leg feathering, rounded body shape, and balanced color while avoiding birds that become too weak, narrow, or oversized for bantam type.
