Fuyun Black
The Fuyun Black is a little-known Chinese chicken associated with Fuyun County in the Altay area of Xinjiang. English-language information is limited, so the name is best understood as a local or regional breed label rather than a widely standardized exhibition term. Birds described under this name are generally black-plumaged farm chickens kept for household eggs and meat, with value placed on hardiness in a northern, dry climate.
For keepers and conservation flocks, the main issue is identity. A black chicken is not automatically a Fuyun Black, and stock should be traced to reliable Chinese or regional lines when possible. Management is similar to other active farm chickens: secure night housing, room to move, and feed adjusted for cold seasons or low-forage conditions. Small breeding groups should avoid indiscriminate crossing, because the practical value of such landrace birds lies in local adaptation as much as appearance.
