Kosova Long-Crowing
The Kosova long-crowing chicken is a Balkan poultry breed from Kosovo and nearby regional traditions, maintained for the extended call of mature males. Many birds are dark or black, but the voice is the defining trait: a long, steady crow with enough duration and tone to set the bird apart from ordinary village roosters. The breed carries an upright, alert farmyard look rather than a single narrow exhibition color.
Practical management starts with roosters. Mature males need secure pens that prevent fighting and a location where a prolonged crow is acceptable. Breeders should wait until birds finish maturing before judging voice, then keep notes on crow length, clarity, body soundness, fertility, and temperament. Hens can be managed like other active chickens with dry shelter and room to forage. Because the breed is uncommon outside its home region, recordings, adult photos, and source history are useful before buying stock.
