Kraienkoppe
Kraienkoppe is the German name for the borderland chicken also known in Dutch as Kraaikop. It was developed in the Netherlands and Germany from local fowl with Malay game influence and later utility selection, producing a bird with reach, alertness, and laying ability. The breed has a leaner, more active look than round-bodied dual-purpose chickens, with a head and stance that reflect its game ancestry.
For owners, Kraienkoppe chickens suit keepers who appreciate energetic birds and have enough space for ranging or a well-designed run. They are not usually chosen as quiet ornamental pets, but they can be rewarding in a managed flock with secure fencing and consistent handling. Breeders should avoid selecting only for show outline if vigor, fertility, and egg production decline. Because the breed crosses national naming traditions, serious buyers should compare the seller's birds with the standard used in that country.
