Kuroiler
Kuroiler is an improved dual-purpose chicken developed for smallholder and backyard production, especially in India and parts of East Africa. It was designed to give rural households a hardy colored bird that grows better and lays more reliably than many unimproved village chickens while still coping with scavenging and low-input conditions. Kuroilers are not an old closed heritage breed in the usual sense; they are a practical production type distributed through hatchery systems.
Farmers keep Kuroilers for eggs, meat, and household income, but they perform best when given more than scraps. Chicks need proper brooding, clean water, protection from disease, and feed support during early growth. Adult birds can forage, yet supplemental grain or formulated feed improves results. Buyers should source from reputable hatcheries because second-generation birds may not match parent-stock performance. For community programs, the bird's value comes from realistic management: secure night housing, vaccination advice from local animal-health workers, and clear expectations about growth and laying.
