Lakenfelder Bantam
The Lakenfelder bantam is a miniature form of the Lakenvelder chicken, carrying the same black-and-white pattern in a smaller frame. The desired effect is a white body framed by dark head, neck hackles, and tail, a contrast that makes weak markings easy to see. Bantam size sharpens the visual impression but leaves little room to hide poor body shape, uneven color, or loose feathering.
Keepers usually choose Lakenfelder bantams for exhibition, small-flock beauty, and lively behavior. They do well in secure outdoor runs with low-stress handling and housing that keeps white plumage clean. Breeding the pattern takes patience because smudging, uneven hackle color, and tail faults show quickly. Buyers should study several birds from the same family, not only one polished adult. They may lay small white eggs, but their main value is as a neat, active bantam with demanding color work.
