Lintao
The Lintao chicken is a regional Chinese chicken associated with Lintao in Gansu, an upland area where village flocks have long been selected under dry, variable conditions. It is generally treated as a local dual-purpose type rather than a standardized exhibition breed. Birds may vary in color and body finish, but the useful identity is a hardy farm chicken shaped by household meat, egg, and replacement needs rather than by a narrow show description.
For keepers and conservation programs, Lintao chickens are most relevant as local genetic material that may carry adaptation to rough range, seasonal feed quality, and smallholder handling. Flocks are best evaluated by health, fertility, growth, mothering ability, and consistency within the line. Anyone buying or recording them should ask about source village, breeder records, and whether the birds are maintained as a landrace population or crossed into general backyard stock.
