Millefiori di Lonigo
Millefiori di Lonigo is an Italian chicken associated with Lonigo in the province of Vicenza, Veneto. Millefiori means a thousand flowers and refers to the speckled, calico-like plumage, where warm ground color is broken by dark and pale markings. It is a regional farm breed or variety rather than a commercial strain, with a medium rural type suited to small flocks. The name is sometimes encountered in Italian poultry circles, but it is not widely known outside specialty breeders.
In practice the Millefiori di Lonigo is kept for breed preservation, exhibition, and small-scale table and egg production. The patterned feathers are part of its identity, yet breeding also has to protect body shape, fertility, and hardiness. Birds can be managed like other rustic chickens, with a dry coop, secure range, and enough space to keep feather quality clean before shows. Buyers should not assume every millefleur-colored chicken is this breed; provenance from Lonigo or recognized Italian lines matters.
