Minorca Bantam
The Minorca bantam is the small-scale version of the Minorca chicken, preserving the breed's Mediterranean outline in a lighter, more compact bird. It is most often seen in black, though recognized colors depend on the country and poultry standard. Like the large fowl, it has clean legs, a long body, white earlobes, and a prominent red comb that can look oversized on such a small bird. It is an exhibition and hobby bird in many flocks, but its type remains tied to the egg-breed heritage of the full-sized Minorca.
Care is simpler on space than with large Minorcas, yet these bantams are active and often good flyers, so covered runs or higher fencing are useful. Hens lay small white eggs and are not usually chosen for broodiness. Cold-weather keepers need to watch the comb, especially on males in damp housing. For breeders, the challenge is keeping the bird small without losing the long Minorca shape, clean white earlobes, and alert carriage.
