Nixi
The Nixi is a local type of domestic chicken associated with Nixi in northwestern Yunnan, China, an upland area on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau. It is usually discussed as a village landrace rather than a tightly standardized exhibition breed. Birds kept under the Nixi name are typically valued for hardiness, active foraging, household eggs, and meat with a stronger local-food identity than commercial broiler strains. Plumage and size may vary between flocks, because selection has been shaped more by farm usefulness and adaptation to cool, high-altitude conditions than by a show standard.
In practice, Nixi chickens are managed much like other rural Asian landrace fowl: they forage during the day, receive grain or kitchen byproducts as a supplement, and need secure night housing against predators and cold mountain weather. Natural brooding can be useful in small flocks, but breeding stock should be chosen for vigor, sound legs, fertility, and the local type claimed by the keeper. Outside its home region, buyers should treat the name carefully and ask about source history, since authentic lines may be uncommon.
