Pavilly
The Pavilly is a rare French chicken breed from the Normandy area, named for the town of Pavilly. It is usually described as a medium farm bird with a local dual-purpose background, kept for eggs and table use before specialized commercial strains became dominant. Its value today lies mostly in preserving a regional French poultry type that might otherwise disappear into broader barnyard stock.
Because the Pavilly is uncommon, serious keepers should source birds from breeders who understand the French standard and can explain their line. Management is ordinary for a hardy farm chicken: dry shelter, outdoor access, good feed, and protection from predators. Breeding groups should be large enough to avoid close inbreeding, and selection should consider body shape, vigor, laying, and type together. For buyers, documentation matters more than a quick visual match.
