Pelung
The Pelung is an Indonesian chicken from West Java, especially the Cianjur region, maintained for the long, musical crow of mature males. It is a large, upright village chicken rather than a typical egg breed, with cultural value in crowing contests and local breeding traditions. Color may vary, but voice, size, stance, and vigor are central to the type.
Pelung keepers often manage males individually or in small groups so condition and crowing quality can be assessed. Birds need strong perches, roomy housing, and balanced feed that supports a large frame without making them too fat. Breeders select for a sustained call, health, fertility, and calm handling, not voice alone. In areas where crowing competitions are held, notes on family lines and performance help buyers understand what a young bird may become once mature.
