Sulmtaler Bantam
The Sulmtaler Bantam is the miniature form of the Austrian Sulmtaler, carrying the breed's rounded dual-purpose look and regional character in a smaller body. It is mainly an exhibition and hobby chicken rather than a meat bird, though good lines still keep the sturdy outline, wheaten coloring or accepted variety traits, and the modest crest associated with the large fowl.
Sulmtaler Bantams need secure small-bird housing, clean litter, and protection from larger, rougher chickens. They can do well in a garden flock when predators are controlled and perches suit their size. Breeders should not let miniaturization weaken type, fertility, or leg soundness. Selection should compare birds with bantam standards while preserving the impression of a true Sulmtaler in reduced scale, not simply a small wheaten chicken with a crest.
