Svensk Dvärghöna
The Svensk Dvärghöna, or Swedish Dwarf Hen, is a small Swedish landrace bantam maintained for local heritage and natural farmyard traits. Unlike highly standardized exhibition bantams, it may show variety in color and details while retaining a small, hardy, naturally reproducing character. Its importance is tied to Swedish rural poultry history and the preservation of small native chickens.
Keepers should manage Svensk Dvärghöna as a landrace, not as a color project. Select for health, fertility, mothering or laying ability, and the small active body that suits the type. They need secure housing because small birds are vulnerable to predators and may fly or slip through gaps. Breeding records help preserve family lines, but selection should not become so narrow that the flock loses the diversity expected in a traditional dwarf hen population.
