Thüringer Barthuhn
Thüringer Barthuhn, or Thuringian bearded chicken, is a German chicken from Thuringia with a full beard and muff that soften the face and make the wattles appear smaller. It is a light to medium farm fowl with an alert carriage, many accepted color varieties, and roots in practical village poultry rather than single-purpose exhibition breeding. The face feathering gives the breed its name and remains the feature that most clearly separates it from ordinary German landrace chickens.
Small farms and poultry keepers often value the Thüringer Barthuhn as an active bird that can forage well while still fitting a managed backyard or show pen. Bearded chickens need routine checks around the face, especially in wet weather or crowded feeding areas, because debris can hide under the muff. Breeding work usually centers on keeping the beard full, the body balanced, and color patterns clean without losing vigor.
